CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION
The Embassy of Malaysia in France, in collaboration with
MAF, hosted a Chinese New Year celebration on Saturday, 1
February 2003 at the Embassy. Besides the food prepared by
HE Tunku Datuk Nazihah bte Tunku Mohamed Rus, Ambassador of
Malaysia to France, MAF members also contributed various Malaysian
culinary and savories giving ambiance to the festivities of
a multiracial society of Malaysia. To add to the festive mood,
the hall was decorated with oranges, Ang Pow packets and lanterns.
About 150 people joined the celebration, many brought their
families and local friends. Even some non-Chinese members
were wearing Cheongsams and Chinese costumes.
During the celebration, HE Ambassador, as the Honourable
Patron of MAF, gave the guests her New Year wishes while Mr.
Chai Chia See, an Executive Committee member gave a brief
explanation on the Year of the Ram. It was then followed by
a “Yee Sang” or Prosperity dish ceremony where HE Ambassador
led the “Loh Hay” (prosperity) by stirring the Yee Sang dish
with a long pair of chopsticks.
